Steps to Creating an Ergonomic Computer Workstation Setup

When you spend hours seating at your desk every day, even the smallest features of your workstation, such as the height of your chair or the position of your monitor, can greatly affect your productivity as well as your health.

A number of different factors can cause injuries and they may not always be obvious. For example, slouching and keeping your shoulders tense can cause pinched nerves in your shoulders and even hurt your wrists. If you haven't given a lot of thought to the comfort of your workstation, it might be time to give it an ergonomic makeover before your body starts to feel the consequences.

The goal of creating an ergonomic computer workstation setup is to make working more comfortable and to improve both health and productivity. It is all about transforming your workspace into a more natural and comfortable one to help you achieve greater efficiency and productivity at your work. It is true that creating an ergonomic computer workstation setup don't always come cheap, but in the long run, you will appreciate the difference they can make in your health and well being.

Computer
Laptop computers have become quite popular are great for short periods of computer work. However, when it comes to ergonomics, its design is problematic: when the screen is at a comfortable height the distance of the keyboard isn't, and vice versa. For sustained use, you should consider buying either an external keyboard or an external monitor.

Keyboard
You should never use a plastic lift under your keyboard because it can cause your hands to type in an unnatural way that reduces blood circulation through wrist and hands. Your hands and wrists need to stain in a straight line with your forearms while typing and this can be easily achieved with an ergonomic keyboard.

Mouse
Using a traditional mouse with one hand can cause your muscle groups to compensate for the weight of one arm and this can result in tightness and pain in the shoulder, elbow, and neck. An ergonomic mouse leads a more natural and easier grip and holds that eases the tendon and muscle fatigue in the hand, arm, and elbow.

Desk and Chair
Make sure that the computer monitor, keyboard, mouse and CPU are placed on a stable working surface with enough room for proper arrangement. Consider a desk that is height adjustable and that allows you to work in a comfortable and neutral position. It is important to choose a comfortable chair too. Its height should be adjustable the backrest should provide good lumbar support.
