Vinyl Flooring Glue - When Do You Need It


The most frequent question people ask when installing vinyl floors is whether they need vinyl flooring glue or not. Well that depends on few things, what kind of flooring products you use, your sub-floor, the size of the room and the traffic you expect to have in that room. If you prefer to have permanent floor coverings that can withstand scratches, spills and impacts then it would be ideal to choose vinyl flooring glue. Even if the vinyl wears out, you can place a new one right over the old vinyl floor. Those people who decide to have the same floor for more than 20 years, choose to glue down the vinyl, but if you plan to change it for few years then you can leave it just like that. Whether you need vinyl flooring glue, will also depend on the type of installation you choose. There are three types of installing vinyl flooring, which one you gonna choose will depend on your personal preferences.




Loose Lay – This type of vinyl flooring offers more cushioned feeling and elegant appearance than the glued ones. No need of vinyl flooring glue since these sheets just need to be lay flat across the room. Since they are easy to install, there is no need to call a professional to do the job. No need of gluing the floor, since it comes with a double-faced flooring tape that is applied under the floor to hold the vinyl in place.

Fully Bonded – The most common type of installing vinyl floors is the fully bonded one. Before you actually install the vinyl, you need to spread adhesive over the entire sub floor to hold it still. However, whether you need one or not depends on your personal preferences. You can apply permanent or releasable adhesive. The releasable adhesive is recommended if you plan to change the floor soon or if you want to add more comfort.


Perimeter Bonded – As we already said, if you opt for a temporary installation, then choose the perimeter bonded type of installing. For this process you will only need vinyl flooring glue on the perimeter of the room. Thus if you run low on budget, then this is far more affordable option than the gluing one.
